No visit to Stow-on-the-Wold is complete without venturing into the surrounding countryside.

Just three miles from town lie Lower Slaughter and Upper Slaughter, two of the most beautiful villages in England and among the most photographed locations in the Cotswolds.

Begin in Lower Slaughter, where a gentle river winds past ancient stone cottages and perfectly manicured gardens. From there, follow one of the walking paths through open countryside to Upper Slaughter, passing wildflower meadows, grazing sheep and rolling fields along the way.

The walk is wonderfully peaceful and offers everything visitors hope to find in the English countryside.

5:00pm | Check In at The Old Stocks Inn

After a day spent exploring, there are few better places to spend the night than The Old Stocks Inn.

6:00pm | A Glass of Wine at Massimo

Before dinner, make one final stop.

After an afternoon spent walking through the Slaughters, there is something rather lovely about changing out of your walking shoes and settling into a wine bar for an hour before the evening begins.

Recently opened in the heart of Stow-on-the-Wold, Massimo Wine Bar has quickly become one of those places that feels as though it has always belonged here. Designed as a relaxed yet elegant space, it offers an impressive and thoughtfully curated wine list alongside small plates and fresh pasta, all served in an atmosphere that encourages you to slow down and stay a little longer.

The afternoon crowds have drifted away, the light begins to soften over the market square, and Stow settles into its evening rhythm.

This is one of the most magical moments of the day.

A glass of something crisp and cold in hand, conversations lingering a little longer than planned, and nowhere particular you need to be just yet.

It's a reminder that some of the best moments in the Cotswolds aren't the grand ones, they're the pauses in between.

7:30pm | Dinner at The Old Butchers

Why Stow-on-the-Wold Captures the Heart

There are countless beautiful villages throughout the Cotswolds, but Stow-on-the-Wold possesses something uniquely special.

Perhaps it is the balance of heritage and contemporary style. Perhaps it is the sense of discovery around every corner. Or perhaps it is simply the landscape itself,  a place where wildflowers bloom beneath ancient stone walls, church bells drift across rolling hills and life unfolds at a gentler pace.

Whatever the reason, it remains one of England's most enchanting destinations.

And once you've experienced it on a warm summer's day, it is easy to understand why so many visitors begin planning their return before they have even left.
