October in the Cotswolds is a season of change. Apples blanket the orchard floor, dahlias and anemone blooms fade in late splendour, and the countryside shifts into russet and gold. Cool days give way to cooler nights, the perfect time for evening log fires and candlelight - the rituals that make autumn so special.
The clocks have turned back, the air smells faintly of woodsmoke, and deep soaking baths replace quick refreshing showers. It’s been a month for warm layers, candlelight, and slowing down.
Life at Grove Farm
Here at Grove Farm, the fields are laced with mist in the mornings and the hedgerows are studded with the last of the rosehips. The trees are shedding their leaves in quiet bursts of gold, and in the garden the final dahlias fill the beds with joy; jewel-bright against fading foliage, defiant in their beauty as Autumn takes hold. Indoors, fires are being lit again, and evenings stretch out with the comforting rituals that make this time of year feel so grounding - a warm bath, the scent of our Anemone fragrance drifting through the air, and the familiar calm that autumn brings.
Seasonal Inspiration
As we settle into Autumn, I’m reminded of what inspired GROVE England from the beginning: the desire to bottle a seasonal moment. The Anemone, our first muse, has had a glorious couple of months and is now fading quietly - delicate petals falling like confetti.
Our fragrances aim to capture these fleeting moments, bottling the nostalgia of British seasons in a way that’s both evocative and alive with possibility.
We are currently getting ready to launch our newest fragrance in early Spring - I won’t say too much for now except that the scent is incredibly beautiful and I can’t wait to share more with you soon.
Remembering Jilly Cooper
This month, I was deeply saddened by the passing of Jilly Cooper, whose sparkling wit and love of life coloured the literary landscape for so many of us. Her novels and memoirs captured a glorious, bygone era - one of laughter, glamour, and unapologetic fun.
In a Sunday Times interview, she once said, “I just fell in love with the countryside. That was what made me come alive. I was having an affair with the whole of the Cotswolds.” That, I think, was her secret: the joy she found in the fields, the woods, and the characters who inhabited them - all woven together with her trademark sparkle.
I was lucky enough to receive a handwritten note from Jilly, one I’ll treasure forever.
In her wonderfully expressive hand, she wrote:
“I ADORE it — Anemone — such a beautiful name and it wafts so happily through the house.” It brought me such joy then, and even more now, knowing how deeply she understood the spirit of the Cotswolds that inspires everything we do at GROVE.
Among the hundreds of tributes, perhaps Queen Camilla said it best: Jilly was a “wonderfully witty and compassionate friend… May her hereafter be filled with impossibly handsome men and devoted dogs.”
New for Christmas
This Christmas, I’m so excited to share our new Anemone hampers - they feel like the ultimate gift from the heart. Giving the gift of fragrance has always felt deeply personal to me, and these hampers are designed to do just that. From the indulgent Anemone Indulgence, to the refined Anemone Discovery, and the soothing Anemone Restore, each one invites a moment of calm, a pause in the day, and a little touch of beauty. I love that every hamper is finished with our signature black bow - a simple, elegant detail that makes the gift feel truly special and utterly GROVE.
Christmas Pop-Up In Stow
I’m so thrilled to share that GROVE England will be part of our very first Christmas Pop-Up at the Penelope Chilvers store in Stow-on-the-Wold from 14th–16th November.
It’s such a lovely chance to come and meet the GROVE team in person, explore our Anemone collection up close, and find the perfect gifts for Christmas - from our award-winning candle and hand cream to our luxurious bath oil and bestselling Eau de Parfum.
We’ll be celebrating with a festive launch evening, complete with carols, drinks, and plenty of holiday cheer. You’ll also be able to explore a few other beautiful brands, including Serena Bute, Rebecca Udall, and Soru Jewellery. And, as a little treat, we’ll be gifting a sample size of Anemone Eau de Parfum with every purchase over £50.
I hope I'll see you there to share a moment of festive fun together!
This Month, Laura Loves
As the evenings draw in, the sitting room becomes the heart of the home - a place to curl up with a book, share stories, or simply enjoy a quiet moment as the day fades. For me, true cosiness isn’t about perfection; it’s about feeling instantly at ease. I’m drawn to soft, layered lighting, gentle earthy tones, and tactile textures - wool throws, velvet cushions, natural woods, and wicker - all working together to invite you to linger.
I love creating small corners for slow moments: a comfortable armchair, a low table with space for a book or a flickering candle, and subtle touches of fragrance, like our Anemone Candle, to make the space feel unmistakably your own. Often, it’s these small, thoughtful details — a lamp repositioned, a throw borrowed from another room, a favourite book within reach — that transform a room into a retreat; a place to breathe deeply, feel grounded, and simply be.
Cosying up for Autumn
This season is all about embracing change: watching the weather change through stormy skies and dramatic light, enjoying fresh, but sunny walks and harvesting the last windfall apples and crab apples to turn into chutneys and jellies. I also love leaning into sensory Autumn rituals at home; whether it’s a warm bath, a cosy jumper, or the glow of a candle, these small acts of care carry us gently from Autumn into Winter.
